William Klein, legendary city photographer, has died at 96 years old. Known for capturing the grit of city streets, Klein published iconic photos of New York, Tokyo, Rome, and Moscow, just to name a few of his subjects. He was also a noted filmmaker, and powerHouse Books was honored to publish his 1998 book William Klein Films, which focused on his work in documentaries and satirical films.
“Mr. Klein, who caught the wit and energy of great cities and satirized the world of fashion with his strikingly original photographs, and portrayed Muhammad Ali and Eldridge Cleaver as iconic rebels in his documentary films, died on Saturday night in Paris. He was 96.”
